Livin’ La Vida Local: Our Trip to Benny’s Chop House

CSN Reviews The River North Steakhouse

Corporate Suites Network recently took a hearty appetite out to the upscale steak joint in River North, Benny’s Chop House (444 N. Wabash). We sat at the bar and was assisted by one of its friendly bartenders, Natalie, who provided us with a couple of Hemingway Daiquiris. Natalie the bartender nailed it. We highly recommend the daiquiris when dining at Benny’s.

Although the restaurant is more high-end, it was a prime venue to watch Da Bears take on the Packers (but we don’t want to talk about the outcome…). The flat screen TVs are great for watching any sporting event. For those not looking for sports entertainment, there was live music—a live jazz duet kept the bar alive.

The atmosphere at the bar was warm, comfortable and friendly. We even met some great folks from London plus some other “out-of-towners.” Benny’s is clearly a destination for locals and tourists alike.

The Benny’s wine list is extensive and pricey overall. However, the Sommelier recommended a very good red from Spain that was at a great price point. For our main dishes, we had a bone-in New York strip steaks that was cooked perfectly to order, even at the bone, which is not always the case at even the better-known steakhouses. The steaks were simply prepared, void of extras—the Benny’s chefs just let the meat stand on its own. And the steaks were good enough to warrant standing alone.

We suggest Benny’s as a great place to meet for a drink or to entertain clients. Everyone at Corporate Suites Network who came out loved it. It seemed the other diners of the steakhouse were enjoying themselves just as much. As such a great Chicago local steak house, Benny’s will see us back there again.

Benny’s Chop House is only an 8-minute walk from 400 N. LaSalle, a 7-minute ride on the 65 Bus from Kingsbury Plaza, and an 8-minute ride on the 6 Bus from Columbus Plaza.
