If you are a winter person, Chicago is the place to be! Chritskindlmart is worth the Uber or public transit trip. You haven’t experienced the holidays in Chicago until you’ve stepped into this giant open-air market inspired by a similar seasonal tradition in Nuremberg, Germany. Guests can shop handcrafted items like nutcrackers, cuckoo clocks, beer steins and glass ornaments.

While walking in a winter wonderland your next stop should be the CTA Holiday Train. It typically runs between Tuesday and Saturday, with trips scheduled on every CTA train line through Monday, December 23. The six-car train is covered with lights, garlands, ribbons and candy stripes inside and out, accompanied by a flatbed car that brings Santa and his reindeer along for the ride. Check out the CTA website to see the holiday train schedule. The Merchandise Mart, which offers the purple and brown line, is the closest el stop and it’s only a five-minute walk from Hubbard Place.
