Make Movie Night Every Night This Month

A red and white popcorn box spills popcorn next to a strip of film on a yellow background with the words "Film Festival" at the top.

Today begins the 48th annual Chicago International Film Festival. Through Thursday, Oct. 25, there will be 150 movies from 50 countries shown at the AMC River East 21 (322 E Illinois St.). Keep your eyes peeled around town for film industry celebs as well as the daring international filmmakers themselves!

No matter your taste, the festival will have a movie to engage you. But push yourself: The fest is here to bring new visions, innovation and fresh ideas to film. The categories of the festival range from Black Perspective and Spotlight Middle East to OUTrageous and ReelWomen, plus many more. All the films are listed here with descriptions, show times and other information to help you map out your festival.

A couple films or movie-centric events catching your eye? The festival strongly recommends grabbing tickets in advance. In 2011, 71% of all the fest’s events sold out. However, you can wait in the rush lines and cross your fingers for open spots.

But the entertainment doesn’t stop when the house lights come on. There are plenty of receptions and after parties as well as panel discussions to join to ensure you get your film fix.

The films are playing at the AMC River East 21, just a 7-minute walk north up on N. Columbus Dr. from Columbus Plaza or a 7-minute ride on the 65 bus from 400 N. LaSalle.

Can you smell the popcorn yet?
